Chores today and the dogs

The girls out in the front field, after I fed them apples, Emma always looking for more, she was watching me pull a widowmaker off of the fence that fell out of the maple tree (green maple).

This is Jessie out by the Blueberry bush, checking for new moles.

Still recovering from my surgery I am trying to get out and clean stalls everyday and take care of the girls. Meghan does most of the feeding, but she never does the stalls like I like LOL It still takes a lot out of me but who would know that I appreciate being able to muck stalls!! LOL I try to tell Meghan "if it is done everyday, there is only about 3/4 of a wheelbarrow full." Sometimes she lets them go two or more days grrrrrrrr. Thats why I am out there now, plus the fact that I actually like it, and I need to be out seeing how the girls are doing etc. In years past working 40 hours a week I wouldnt be out there except for the weekends, so I really am enjoying this! And I suppose that the exercise is good for me too! LOL

This is Jessie our 8 year old Golden, waiting for me to get done with cleaning stalls.
The old mare Easy "let me out too, p l e a s e....." And our wonderful mud we have until summer.

This is Teddy, our 14 year old chahuahua /schipperke mix old and has cataracts, spoiled brat! (lol I tried to figure out how to spell cha????)lol

Pepsi pictures

Top pic........
is my little sister on Pepsi, that was his wild mane that we usually kept roached off.

Bottom pic......
I found a really cute picture of me on Pepsi he was a good looking little pony, dig the pants, they were one of my favorites. I am six years old in the pic. I love those old dated photos.

I have had fun going through all the old pics, a lot of work. Now there is more work scanning them all into the computer and saving them to disc too.

I have one more box to go through, havnt found a picture of Gretchen or Ceasar yet. I hope I do. Thats what I did today with the two loads of laundry I folded and fed the old mare her lunch and cleaned stalls, and Meghan just told me she wants leftovers for dinner, yeah, I dont have to cook, Hubby is working over so I will just put a nice big mrs calanders pot pie in the oven for us.

It is susposed to be dry for the weekend, and Meghan has her first drill practice. She might still borrow an 11 year old gelding from some friends, for Wahset, but she still has to talk to them about it some more and work out the kinks. She is all for it but her husband is having second thoughts, he is worried about Meg getting hurt on his horse and that being on his conscience. So we will see. Meg wants to be competative this, her last year, and this horse should let her do that. Meg is an excellent rider and she has been riding him, and gets along with him.

I asked for it and I got it! yikes

Ok today was the day I went up to moms to find pictures. Oh boy, we went up to the property where all the pictures were stored....... and now I have 3 plastic bins that weigh about 60lbs a piece in my entry hall. I have already gone through one box, and hit paydirt lots of good pics! now I just have to figure out the program with the new printer/scanner all in one, not as easy as the old scanner. Hopefully I can get some on here soon.

LoL Mom decided to bring the boxes to my house when we left the property, that was great they are very heavy. Well somehow during the unloading process one of us locked her truck doors, with both of our purses in the truck, keys in the ignition, spare key in her purse LOL, oh great we have to call Dad.
I had left my truck at their house so he drove that down and rescued us. Good thing I "forgot" to lock the front door when we walked back out to so at least we were warm and dry.
It rained so hard today, they are talking about flooding in certain local areas,(like my field :( we had about an inch of rain or so today and as much as 3 inches on the coast! we are inland @250miles.On the Columbia River, At the mouth of the Columbia Gorge. aka the wind tunnel, it was breezy too, and did I say wet!
I think this will be the day I go up to moms and look through pictures, yeah!

Equestrian team

Meghan on Easy, County fair '08 Meghan on Emma, 4-H horse camp '08

Another journey I will be talking about this winter is our daughter Meghans senior year in

Washington High School Equestrian Team, hereafter Wahset. We still dont know which one of our horses she is going to ride. She rode Easy last year, but she is coming 24 yrs old in '09, and she is having issues keeping weight on, she is still sound, she only getts a little sore in her left stifle ounce and awhile. Meghan has wanted to retire her and ride our appy Emma, but her and Emma have issues, lol, Emma hasnt had a job yet and she will be 9 next year. If you are familiar with Parelli she is a left brain introvert/extrovert and everything has to be her idea. She doesnt have the go factor that the old mare has, Easy is a right brain introvert, always willing to please and go, go, go, she loves to run. Meghan wants to do what is right for the horse which means only riding her if we can get her to hold her weight. In an arena Emma has been just quitting on her and wont go forward unless she is spanked, its been frustrating for Meg.

We find out that Easy is dynamite in steer daubing and team sorting, and she is good at games, and she is getting to old to keep going, as hard as she would like. She has been getting all the teff grass she will clean up, she gets 4 dry cups(soaked) of beet pulp, and 8 cups of vitality 14 twice a day, I have started feeding her a half ration during the day, so she is getting fed 3 times a day. I had the vet out to check her teeth, she still has all of them, but not enough to float, he said she had about an 1/8th of an inch of tooth left on the whole bottem, more on the top. I just wormed them. I think I am going to add Empower and Fastrack to her diet and give it a month or so and see how she does.

Emma on the other hand has no problem keeping condition, she looks great! and Mickey gets fat looking at food lol. Although at 17 two years ago she coliced, had a mild impaction that banamine and green grass took care of. So when it starts getting cold and they are in and not grazing all day I give her beet pulp too, I think it helps keep the gut loose.

Soooo.... watch for the trials and tribulations of Wahset too......

Thank you Vets

Thanks to all Vets and all who are serving today.
We have two of our children that are serving in the Air Force, our son John and our daughter Sara. I am so proud of them!

My father in law served in the Navy, on the Bon Hom Richard

My Grandfather served in the Navy on the USS Daniels

My dad served in the Army

I was going to go on about my horses I have had and ridden in the past, but I have a trip to make to my moms to scan and go through some pics first, I want a pic to go with a name, and some good memories to! so that will be a work in progress as I go.
here is a list of names I want to start with, this list may change as I get reminded of friends I may have temporarily forgot :(

Gretchen, Pepsi, Silkey,Rocket, Joe (aka mescalin) Dusty Lady(silkeys foal) Man, Ceasar, Easy(aka Pines Bundle) Mickey (aka Lady Mckenzie) Emma (aka MP Emmas Dun Dreamin) moms currant horses Sunny and Val (both Dustys foals)

My dad was a farrier for quite a few years, yes certified and all, so he always taught me to look at a horse from the ground up. He taught me to trim my horses feet when I was @12, and he caught me with his rasp trying to file my horses feet so I could ride him. I have trimmed my own ever since. The cobblers kids ya know, LOL.

First post is it this easy?

I have enjoyed reading other folks blogs, I dont know what may make me interesting enough to have my own blog, but here goes.

I live in SW Washington state on the WET side of the state, no the whole state isnt a rainforest. I am 41 years old, my husband and I have 3 kids, son 23, and two daughters 22 and 17. I grew up in this small mill town, my folks moved here when I was two years old. I married my husband in 1990. He was born here and we live in the house that his parents built the year he was born.

Mom got her first horse when I was two, and that started my love of horses. They bought me my first pony when I was 5, Gretchen a cute little silver dapple mare, unfortunatly she had a locking stifle problem so after a month or so they took her back. My next pony was Pepsi a little shetland/welsh chestnut with a thick wild mane, we usually kept it roached off it was so thick. I found out Pepsi died two years ago (06) at the ripe old age of 39, he had a wonderful last few years with the folks that had him at the time.

So thats how my horse career got started, with a pony. I have this want to go back and find pictures of all the horses I have had, I was going to do a scrapbook but hey, how about a virtual one?

Well then as this Blog progresses I will include all of my wonderfull four legged teachers in it.

Currantly we have three horses, Easy (aka Pines Bundle) a 23 year old QH mare that belongs to my middle daughter who in in the Air Force right now. Mickey a 19 year old QH/morgan mare of indescript breeding, who now has artheritis in both her front knees, much to my disappointment. And last but deffinetly not least, Emma (aka Emmas Dun Dreamin) 8 year old Appaloosa mare who is the character of the herd.

Unfortunatly I have the extra time now to do this because of medical reasons. I was diagnosed with a brain tumor on March 5th '08, and had surgery to remove it on the 7th, it was a succesfull surgery but has left me with physical deficites. I was in the hospital for two months and had a stomach tube for food. The surgery paralyzed my tongue for awhile, I no longer have the tube, and I have gained weight back so I think its working ok now LOL. I was in the hosp. so long because of my Blood pressure, or lack of it, I dont know how many medications they tried on me untill we found one that worked, not fun. I have balance issues and tend to fall, stray, lean, however you want to put it, to the left. If I get up fast I will run to the left, or if I bend over I will tend to have a problem when I stand back up. I have digestive problems, reflux, I dont think it is Acid reflux but still have to have all the tests done, yeck more docs. I had six weeks of radiation treatment of the tumor site, my tumor is called an ependymoma, and generally not a malignant type, it was a grade 2 tumor, and can come back. Its location was in the fouth ventricle on my brainstem, thus the tongue issues. Doc resected it 99% , so I hope I have quite a few years before any recurrance, if at all.

In 2002 I was hit head on by a drunk driver, and lifeflighted to the hospital, and spent 3 months in a wheelchair. My left arm and my left leg are titanium. So I have had enough of the school of hard knocks I hope I have passed or am passing all those tests now.

Well I can continue next with my next horse.........untill next time.
