Dreaming of Spring.....doing Winter horse chores....

These are archived pictures. I didnt want to take the camera out, to muddy and cold. I cant wait for Spring!!

Warmer days when its more comfortable to get outside and get things done, would be nice!

Emma looks warm and content, and NOT muddy here! I hosed her off this morning when I went out to feed. She enjoyed the grass while I got the mud off of her!

This is the scene for trimming hooves! Emma got her toes clipped today, I waited way to long, she was pretty long. But she is all better now!! Now I have to get the other two done! They are not near as long as Emma was! I did pretty good today, went out and a little after 1PM and was back in the house at 2:20PM!! I trimmed Emmas feet and cleaned the three stalls!! Pretty good for a fat old brain tumor survivor!! LOL (oh and at my last Doc appt. I have lost 15#!!!! I am down to 178# wow!! without trying LOL. I just dont eat as much as I used to anymore. At my heaviest I was up to @ 230#. so that is a lot!!! When I got out of the hospital I was 183# so..... I feel pretty good, and would like to get down to around 160#, I think that would be comfortable!!!)

  1. Yes warmer weather will be nice - but we had a beautiful day here in Minnesota almost 30 degrees! My kids did dog training in 4-H - the best project there is! Do you know any of the trainers (guide dog trainers) from Minnesota? - Lucille was our 4-H trainer and she always had a pup with her....

  2. Country Girl, no cant say that I know any of the trainers out that way. The farthest East I have been is Colorado Springs!! LOL
I really dont know any of the trainers here on the Boring GDB campus either.
Your family raises Guide Dog puppies?
It a great thing to do, and enjoyable!!!!

  5. Congratulations on all the weight loss!! That's inspiring. As for the weather, it's muddy here, too--I did take a camera out today...and yesterday...but I deleted some of the pictures before posting. It's a big ICK out there.

  6. FV, well I really dont have any secrets LOL, I just cant chew as long as I used to so it limits how much I eat, things like steak take me 4 times as long as anyone else! LOL

Train Wreck! Glad to have you back girl!!! Yeah I fell in love with that dancing pony, LOL I believe I stole it from "All HOrse Stuff"

  7. This mud is terrible, isn't it? I'll be doing a happy dance when temps hit 60 and the sun shines!

  8. Yes Paint girl, the mud is terrible!!!
I really want to get a lot of bark this year to put around the barn! But affording it is the other question. WSU mud management class that I took recommends putting a pile or more of bark chunks in you sacrifice areas, so they can get up out of the mud. I havnt priced bark nuggets or chunks lately, so I am sure its expensive!

  9. Emma's got a beautiful big booty!
    Kind a like me. lol!

You're so brave to share your weight. I'd love to be 160# again. I'm currently close to your heaviest weight (gah!), but everyone seems to be surprised when they realize that bit of info. I suppose being almost 6 feet tall helps to hide it well?
I sure feel it, though. Especially around my hips, which seems to be where most of the weight sits. But with hip displasia, the weight causes a lot of problems and pain. bah!

  10. Yeah Lisa Emma has that Apple butt, LOL LOL
I know what you mean about feeling the weight, I feel so much better now that I have lost some. For you and for FV, I believe the South Beach diet works!!! I went on it a few years ago and lost 30lbs in 3 months, I put some back on after I went off of it. Then I started to get sick from my tumor so I didnt stick with it. My daughter has my start up booklet that I used, it has wonderful lists of foods you can and cant have and stage one and stage two, its what really helped me be successful with it. I can get it if you are interested? Just let me know!!

  11. I know what you mean about mud. I am sick of it too. Sure can't wait for warmer dryer weather.

Here the conservation district recommends not using the bark or hog fuel because it eventually breaks down to make more mud. They recommend gravel instead. I think that works good but I think it needs to be boxed in so it doesn't migrate and it needs to be "lifted" to keep it on top too. One place I worked used to go over the gravel once a month with the drag to keep it on top and allow any dirt to fall through. That seemed to work well.

Congratulations on the weight loss. I understand how that brain stuff can affect everything else. It took Lindsay a long time to get back to "normal." Whatever that was. You're doing great!

  12. Gosh, I'm never happy with Winter time... it's always harder to do the barn chores in winter!
Rudy is quite happy with the cold weather... and the snow... and rain, but I'd rather deal with farm chores in the Spring!
    Congrats on the weight loss!

  13. Rising Rainbow, yeah gravel would be awesome! again its affording enough to make a difference, and if you box it in, what about the edges, do they still get muddy?

Thanks Rudys raiser! I really cant wait for Spring, had a nice teaser today! almost 60 out!!

  14. I have been thinking about boxing in the gravel for a while. I have done it the other way and the gravel spreads out. Evemtually you have to add more and more.

I'm thinking I'm going to use landscape timbers for my edges to put boxes at my gates, which is where I get worst mud. I'm thinking if I do it right, the horses will go over the pole but won't go back and forth in front of it. It should be good. I'm thinking that boxed area needs to be big enough the horse fits inside it to when I turn them loose or catch them.

A barn I worked at many years ago had boxed areas with hog fuel. They worked great (no mud outside the boxO but the hog fuel eventually broke down and created more mud. Their box was probably the size of the swing area for the gate.

  16. Rising Rainbow, hmmm I have a lot of timbers lalying in the wood pile behing the barn. I really need to do this with Emmas stall gate in and out of the barn, as it has become a good 16-18 inch drop out of the barn! Gahhhh. This would work really well. Hmmm now can I find some high school kid that wants to work cheap LOL LOL LOL

Ha Ha Ha Meri!!! EAch to their own!!!
