I am still here!

Still here, just not posting much.

Went for a ride last Saturday, it was a fundraiser for some local trail restoration.  It was a day at the local Saddle Club, riding in their arena and outdoors, going through the trail course obstacles they have set up. I rode Emma, and went with my friend Carol, who rode her Rocky Mtn. mare Jazzy.

We had fun, got there around 10:30 and went in to sign up, $30. for the day to ride, and do the obstacles as many times as you liked.  We saddled up and messed around at the few obstacles close to where the trailer was, a curtain made of event flags, the ones that are always around a car or motorcycle track, I can never remember what they are called.  There was a teeter-totter bridge, which I didnt do because I believe the need a lot more work with that one on the ground, before you try to ride them over it. Carol led Jaz over it after we were done, she walked over it like a champ.  We then went to the inside arena. Keep in mind this is a do it yourself kinda thing,  they gave us maps, but we flunked reading them! LOL

Inside the arena we did, a log pole, sidepass, walked them up to a fake fire, one of those cloth air blown ones with lights, Emma didnt like that! There were also fake trees and a tent around the fire. Lots of different kind of walk over stuff, a course weaving through a whole bunch of potted plants, tarps to walk over and stuffed animals, Emma did really good!

We then went to the other side of the field, out behind the arena. There were a lot more obstacles, a water box, which Emma followed Jaz through, then later I got her to go through by herself too. Along one side of the property line was a bank that ran along the chain link fence with about 15 feet of room. A trail went through this low area with some obstacles. One was a car tent with Halloween streamers hung randomly from the ceiling, the other was an obstacle built with pool noodles that stuck out at 90*, the horse has to push through them. Emma doesnt like these, she feels like she has to step over them, the one outside was higher, up at shoulder and knee level, there was also one inside that was only just above knee level.

We played around and rode through most of the obstacles 3-4 times, the mares both did great! The only problem I had was when we were on the level above the outside sunken trail! For some reason it was really scary for Emma to have those people and horses down below her! But we worked through it, she is so funny!

At the other end of the sunken trail were some natural obstacles and a gate, and also some large probably 8x8 three tier steps, they were a high step about 16 inches, we went down them first and then up them. There was also some more natural trails winding in and out of trees and another small bridge over there.

It was a pretty great day! Thought we were going to get wet at first, then it cleared up and was pretty nice. we rode until about 1:00PM and then tied the mares up and went inside and had a hamburger! Sure tasted good after a day of riding! I was proud of Emma, she is a bit of a chicken, but when she doesnt want to do an obstacle on her own I just get off and lead her through, then she usually will go through with me on her. She loved the natural trails around the trees and over the logs.

I so want to go up to Silver Springs and The Bolender place and do some extreme trail, I think she would love it! She does not like doing roundy rounds in the arena, funny cuz she hasnt been ridden in one a whole lot, but she turns into a different horse, ears back, tail wringing. She gets bored so fast! When I was putting her under saddle, I line drove her with the saddle maybe twice, she drove around and wove through cones like she had done it all before. Thats how she has always been, do it once or twice and she is looking for something new. I think thats why she likes getting out trail riding and just going. I swear she is to smart, sometimes for her own good!  I always say she is my Shetland pony incarnate, in a 1200lb. body! If she can reach it, she will play with it or chew on it, knock it over, or step on it, or open it. Have to keep things out of her reach.

I have been working part time at a local smaller club store, has things like Target, some groceries, clothing, sporting goods, hardware and electronics, as well as a pharmacy. I am cashiering, and so far I am doing pretty good, although an 8 hour day tires me out pretty good, I usually work 5-6 hours, which is perfect. At least I am making enough to match what I had gotten from disability SSDI before I lost it in March.

Starting to think about the holidays, dont know what we are going to do this year as I will probably work all through. I will get my employee discount in Nov., so it will be great to have before Christmas.
We are having an Indian Summer here in the NW, I sure hope I can find the time to go for another ride before the weather turns again.

Wow Summer has gone by fast!! Huckleberry picking and a trail ride.

Well we have done a few things this Summer. We finally got to go Huckleberry picking!

Here we passed Bonneville Dam on our way up to pick.
Bridge of the Gods, crossing the Columbia River from Washington to Oregon, it is a tole bridge.
Beautiful Fir trees on our way up the mountain.
More Firs! Yes this is the dead of August! It is really that green here in SW Washington!
 Panther Creek.
Off of pavement up in Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
Did I get one picture of Huckleberries, no, I did pick about 3/4 of a gal!! in three hours time. I have put them in the freezer, dont know weather to save them for a pie or make them into Jam!!

This is Wind River Gorge.
Fun fun antiques store in Carson Wa. to go explore! Didnt on this day but have many time in the past.
We took my cousin Liz's RV old Bessie! Here is Hubby driving and Liz.
Beacon Rock state park, on our way home!

Went for a nice trail ride on Saturday with Meghan and our friend Glenna. We went to Whipple Creek Park, about 40 min. from our house. Nice hour and a half ride. Beautiful trails. Emma always has hay to munch! Keeps her out of trouble! LOL

Meghan getting the old Lady, Easy ready.
Mounted up, Glenna and her hubby Charlie in the background, and Glenna's mare Rosie.
 Cute! LOL
I needed to change the photo setting on my camera, it was taking awful pictures!
 Glenna and Rosie.
It was nice and cool, almost raining,.
 Taking pics of each other!

Emma is a big chicken, she wouldnt go through here without Easy.
 The old Grist Mill.
The plaque on the Grist Mill.
 Beautiful ferns everywhere!
Ferns all the way up this tree trunk!
Whipple Creek Stables. Sadly the man who built this wonderful facility passed away last year. Had many great times there. The stable property backs up to the Whipple Creek Trails, which is wonderful when you board there!!
My wonderful colorful view from my lil' Appaloosa mare!
Great ride, I hope it isnt the last of the year! The rain is here for at least this week, should have another dry spell before our wet Fall sets in!

A new chapter!

I may be scarce until I get my schedule figured out.
After 5 1/2 years since my brain tumor surgery, I have gotten a job! I used to work there before, its been 7-8 years though!!!
New schedule for the puppies and the ponies, and us!!!
Glad to be back at work, the second income is much needed, even though it is part time for now.
This is the calm before the storm the other night. We have had on and off thunderstorms, but nothing major. And a bright rainbow for good luck!!
I will be working part time as a cashier, at a local store. Three days a week will be great to get back into the swing of things again.

Have a fun ride planned with Meghan on Sept. 14, fundraiser for a local Park trail system, I guess they cant be called Poker Rides anymore. Looking forward to it!

The garden

I love purple flowers! These are cool!
Had to take a picture of the giant, with the others behind it, for a little perspective. I would bet it is over 10 inches in diameter!!!
My favorite so far! Never can get the colors just right, on the camera, but close.
Made me happy to see this one opening up! I was my favorite from last year, and there are two plants now!!! Happy!
So far I have four of this color, that are blooming.
The giant yellow, is a bit smaller than the purple, but not by much.
White isnt my favorite, but it is a prolific plant!
My garden! On the right are Giant sunflowers which quickly overtook the corn! LOL Which is ok here, the corn didnt like this spot very well. Replanted it 2-3 times in spots. The two rows to the left are the happy corn! Then tomatoes.
Broccoli and cauliflower, zucchini, then pole beans, with more sunflowers. Alas, probably wont be a good green bean year. The Voles have cut quite a few at the bottom, little pests! They run in the Mole tunnels and eat some of the garden at times.
Nasturtiums in the zucchini. Buddy planting, they are supposed to help with any pests.
View of the sunflowers from the side by the tomatoes. They are pushing 10 feet tall, some of the stalks are 4 inches in diameter! Trees I tell you!!! LOL
Broccoli. Right before I picked it! I have been picking them kind of small, its been so warm, mid to high 80's, and they bolt fast. Would rather have broccolets! to eat than nothing.
And my lost row of broccoli, all the extras I thinned/pulled that I couldnt bear to throw out!  My bro-inlaw has four rows, 2 corn, 2 pole beans, he has been ill so I have been watering and mostly weeding his garden too. He only got about 12 corn plants in two rows. Beans look good though.
Lots of work, lots of water! I tilled again the other day, to keep the weeds down. Harvesting lots of zucchini!! Any one want some!!! LOL LOL The zucchini fairy may show up at your house!
Loving Summer.

Summer is in full swing! Dahlias are blooming, harvesting lots of zucchini, and a little bit of broccoli.
This is Hubby's new car! LOL LOL Sis in-law and his brother put it together special for him! NASCAR!! LOL Dublin approves. They found a PS2 gaming chair and steering wheel to put in it! LOL LOL Bro built the little console for the steering wheel!
We have had visitors to the yard, all these little brats have been visiting. The horses just watch them and dont care! They also dont seem to get shocked by the electric fence. There was a third one in the pasture.
Burgundy Nasturtiums, love this color, its different form all the orange and yellow I have had in the past. I planted a lot of Nasturtiums this year!
Variegated Nasturtiums, love the leaves! A small Dahlia in there too.
 The BIG yellow one bloomed.
Alas, the deer are brats, I am glad they do not like to eat Dahlias! But the poor roses suffer! They ate all the rose buds and leaves, except for this one that is blooming now.
Giant purple! I took these pics after sundown this evening. Will get some in the light soon!
Purple with white tips! So far I am very happy with what has survived my digging and storing!
Bright Nasturtium pot!!! There is a Dahlia in there too. They are so iridescent!
Need to go on another ride soon!! Loving the weather, mid to high 80's, it did rain a little this morning?? Low clouds, it was like being at the coast!

We have been working on clearing, cleaning, gleaning, tossing, and rearranging Grammy's house. Our goal is to clean it up and stage it for an Estate sale the first week of August. Lots of work! Sis in-law has been there every morning this week! Tired and sore and a little overwhelmed by all the stuff. But it is almost done, the guys have to get up and clear the attic and we should be close, then the pricing starts! So much work! Now I know why people have the Syroptimists come in and do it all. Just Wow. Found a few treasures, a lot of junk, and lots of memories.
This is Hubby's Grandparents house, where they lived for more than 35 years. We live across the street in his parents house, that his parents lived in when he was born(built in '66) Family has been on this property for 47 years! Dont know what is going to happen with the Grandparents house. It would have to be completely renovated, its pretty deteriorated now.
